This tutorial describes, end-to-end, the steps to setup a workstation for data processing.
The workstation can be a desktop computer or a laptop, as long as the minimum specifications are met.
To reduce the computation time and optimize point cloud rendering, workstation specifications can be higher than the one mentioned above. While we recommend asking a specialist to get the best out of your workstation, here a few pointers about hardware specs.
Depending on your purchase, 1 or 2 software will be used:
Both software can be installed on several computers at a time but both software can only use the license on one computer at a time. Their licensing differs (fixed vs float). Please read carefully the section below.
PPIMMS license is a fixed license attached to a workstation. There is however the possibility to change the license from one workstation to another every 7 days. If done more often, the licensing server will identify it as a fraud and block your license. You will then not be able to use the software. If this happens, please contact the support.
Qinertia is a floating license. Within an organization, every time a user logs into the software, she/he takes over the licensing token. If other users were already using it, they will be ejected from the software.
Download the .exe file (at this link) to install the software. Should this not be the latest version, you will always be able to upgrade it later from the interface in PPIMMS once installed.
Right-click on the .exe file and “Run as administrator”.
Should a warning appear, click on “More info”.
Then click on “Run anyway”.
On “Select Setup Language” choose your preferred language (English of French).
Click “Next” on the homepage of the setup application.
Read and accept the license agreement if you wish to pursue the installation. Then click “Next”.
Choose your program installation folder in Windows (C:/Program Files/Viametris/PPiMMS2 by default) and click “Next”.
Should it not be your first installation, a pop-up window will appear. Click “Yes”.

Choose your desktop shortcut preference, then click “Next”.
Click “Install” to start the installation.

Once completed, select both “View the Change Log File” and “Launch PPiMMS2”.
The change log lists all the features, bug fixes and miscellaneous adjustments of the software releases.

We recommend you to create a folder /PPIMMS on your fastest SSD drive and select it.
Click “Select Folder”.
Click “OK” to complete the selection.
A pop-up window “Product Registration” will appear.
You will need to provide the license number that you were given at purchase. Then click “OK”.
This number can be found on your delivery slip. It should have the following format: PPIMMS-xxxx-xxxx-xx.
The software will inform you that it needs to access the internet to verify your license. This will be done every 24hours when opening the software. During these time period, you can work “offline”. Click “OK”.
The software will attempt to connect to the internet to verify your license.
If a pop-up window appear notifying iMMS/iMS2D/iMS3D users of the software compatibility. Select “Do not prompt again” then “OK”.
The software will open. It is ready to be used.
