VIAMETRIS was founded in 2008. With prior scientific and commercial knowledge of the autonomous vehicles industry, the company was born out of the need for navigation and mapping software.
For testing purposes, the company created a mobile mapping system and quickly became expert in trajectory algorithms.
At Intergeo 2011, Viametris unveiled a trolley equipped with laser profilers and a 360° camera that could scan indoor areas. This was the first system of its kind in the world and would remain so for several years.
The birth of this indoor mapper marked a pivot in the history of the company from pure software-based products to end-to-end mobile mapping solutions.
Improvements in SLAM algorithms continued while the integration of inertial and GNSS technologies started.
In 2016, the VMS3D was launched embedding a high-grade IMU, GNSS sensors, a DMI and Viametris unique SLAM expertise into a single compact device. It filled the gap between the typical large and expensive road mappers and wearable devices purely based on SLAM.
Viametris released its first backpack laser scanner in 2017.
This product line would become the company flagship for several years thanks to its versatility. It can be used in indoor and outdoor environments, in pedestrian and motorized modes at any speed.
In 2023, the MS-96, a modular mapping system, was released.
Elegantly designed and lightweight, the quest for the ultimate mobile scanning system is on with this system equipped with millimeter noise LiDARs, a proprietary camera, a high-end IMU and modular GNSS accessories.
